Why see a paediatric gynaecologist?

You might wish to see a private paediatric gynaecologist if you have already seen a GP about your child’s condition, and have either been referred to a gynaecologist or wish to skip waiting lists.

We can see young people for routine check-ups or to address specific symptoms or concerns.

Our approach to paediatric gynaecology

We can see both paediatric (ages 0-12) and adolescent (12-18) patients.

There are certain misconceptions about seeing a gynaecologist, such as that it involves lying on a bed being examined. For most patients, your consultation will just involve a conversation and your gynaecologist will only carry out an examination if there is a condition that requires it.

Your gynaecologist will provide a safe environment where you can talk openly without embarrassment or fear of judgement.

What can I expect during my child’s visit to the paediatric gynaecologist?

During your child’s visit to the paediatric gynaecologist, you can expect a caring and sensitive approach to addressing their unique health needs. Our specialised team is trained to provide a safe and comfortable environment for children and young adolescents.

We understand that discussing sensitive topics may be challenging for some young patients, so we take great care to communicate in a child-friendly and age-appropriate manner. Our goal is to ensure your child feels understood, supported, and empowered to ask any questions they may have.

They can attend their consultation with you, but they may also be asked if they want their parents to wait downstairs for 5 minutes if there is anything they wish to discuss in confidence with the gynaecologist.

Do you provide follow-up care and support for young people and their families?

Yes, we are committed to providing comprehensive follow-up care and support for both young patients and their families. We offer personalised treatment plans and ongoing support to help your child navigate any medical concerns. Patients usually come to us for follow-up care in cases of irregular cycles, abnormal bleeding and pelvic or period pain. This is to check the progress of any medication or treatment.

In addition to medical care, we also provide educational resources and guidance for parents and caregivers. We believe that involving the family in the treatment process is essential for the overall well-being of the young patient.

For some conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, you will likely not need to see us again once treatment has been prescribed.

How often should my child visit a paediatric gynaecologist?

The frequency of visits to the paediatric gynaecologist depends on your child’s individual health needs.

Some parents like to bring their children in for routine check-ups and preventive care, and we can happily accommodate this. However, if your child has a specific gynaecological condition or requires ongoing treatment, they should see a specialist as soon as possible to address the issue.
