What is an MRA scan?
Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) is a kind of specialist MRI scan that looks specifically at the blood vessels. A standard MRI cannot provide particularly good images of the blood vessels. An MRA scan is typically used to check for and monitor aneurysms. An MRA scan may also be recommended if you or a family member has previously suffered from a blood clot or stroke.
An MRA is a very safe scan, although since it uses a powerful magnet, you may not be able to get one if you have any metal devices in your body such as pacemakers.
