Full Body Cancer MRI Screening

We believe that one of the best ways to reduce cancer deaths is through prevention. As part of our cancer screening service, we offer full body cancer screening, used to detect difficult to diagnose cancers, so they can be identified early enough to treat.

Why get a full body cancer MRI screening?

A number of cancers can be difficult to detect until it’s too late, as they don’t tend to produce symptoms. These include brain,  liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, renal cancer (kidney/bladder) and ovarian cancer. Regular and established screening programmes to detect these cancers are not widely available, which is why they often don’t get detected until they are too late to treat. They are often referred to as the ‘silent cancers’ as they are often untreatable and the ones that kill.

At Phoenix Hospital Group, we are proud to offer a full body cancer MRI screening service that can detect cancer lesions as small as 1 centimeters, ensuring they are identified early enough to treat.

How much does a full body cancer scan cost?

Our full body cancer MRI screening costs £1,995.  This includes:

  • A full body MRI scan using our innovative Diffusion Whole Body (DWB) advanced cancer screening technology, at 9 Harley Street
  • Scan results reviewed by two of the UK’s top cancer screening Consultant Radiologists, Professors, Anwar Padhani and Dow-Mu Koh
  • A detailed report that outlines your scan findings, location of cancer lesions if detected, and advice about follow up treatment
  • On-going referrals to our expert cancer specialists or for additional tests/scans if required

How does the scan work?

We use a new, innovative imaging technique called Diffusion Whole Body (DWB) examination.

This innovative technology, combined with the expertise of our highly experienced Consultant Radiologists, means we can detect cancer lesions as small as 1 centimeters, ensuring difficult to detect cancers are diagnosed early and can be treated effectively before it’s too late.

What does it look for?

The Diffusion Whole Body (DWB) MRI scan covers the whole body (from the head down to just the upper thigh). All of the vital organs are scanned for cancer, including the pancreas, kidney, bladder, and spine.

The scan can also detect more common cancers, such as bowel, lungs, breast & prostate, however it is not designed to be a replacement for these well-established and effective screening programmes such as CT colonography, mammogram and ultrasound.

Who is the scan for?

The risk of cancer grows as we get older, and increases by 3% per annum once you’re over the age of 45.

Patients have many reasons for wanting to use our full body cancer screening service, but the most common are:

  • You have lost family and friends to cancer and want peace of mind that you don’t have it
  • You’ve had cancer before and are 5 years clear, but want to be reassured it hasn’t come back or spread
  • You are committed to staying healthy and want to include a full body cancer scan as part of your annual health screening
  • You are concerned about your health and have an unhealthy lifestyle that could result in cancer

Please note: this service is not suitable for patients with a diagnosis of cancer or who are currently undergoing treatment.

Can I book a full body scan without a referral?

Our specialist cancer screening doctor will have a pre-assessment phone call with you prior to your appointment. They will also review your scan results and provide you with a report. This means you don’t need a referral from your own GP to have the scan.

Our specialist health screening doctor can also address any particular medical concerns you have, (such as a lump or pain in a particularly body part) and can recommend a more tailored series of diagnostic screening and tests, instead of a full body cancer screening, if more appropriate.
