Pregnancy Scan London

Comprehensive pregnancy scans available at all stages of pregnancy. With leading obstetricians and comfortable clinics, you and your baby are in safe hands.

What does a pregnancy scan look for?

During your pregnancy, you will undergo a variety of scans to check the health and development of your baby. Each different type of scan looks for different things, starting with an early pregnancy scan to determine how long you have been pregnant for, all the way to anomaly scans which look for any issues once the baby is more developed. We also offer optional additional tests like the Harmony Test, which can identify the baby’s risk of Down Syndrome.

Pregnancy scans are a crucial tool for expectant mothers to feel reassured that your baby is healthy and developing well. By providing the opportunity to detect any potential issues early on, we can make sure you and your baby receive the best possible care.

Who is the service for?

Types of pregnancy scan we offer

At Phoenix Hospital Group, we offer the full range of pregnancy scans available for monitoring the ongoing development of your baby. These include early pregnancy scanning options that are not available on the NHS.

Viability scan (Early Pregnancy)

Usually performed between 6-10 weeks, this test can confirm that the pregnancy is viable by checking for a heartbeat. It can also identify any potential issues that might need further investigation.

Dating scan (Early Pregnancy)

Usually performed between 8-14 weeks, this can help establish the gestational age of your baby, or how long you have been pregnant for.

Reassurance scan

This scan can be performed anytime between 14-32 weeks and just provides reassurance that your baby is healthy and developing well. These scans are available on the NHS.

Anomaly scan

Performed at 18-21 weeks, this scan looks for structural abnormalities in the baby’s brain, spine and heart.

Foetal medicine scan

This is usually only carried out in cases where your doctor suspects there is a problem with the baby’s development, and can provide more detail about your baby’s health.

Harmony Test

This is a non-invasive blood test that can be performed from 10 weeks, which assesses the baby’s risk of Down and Edwards syndrome.

What to expect during a pregnancy scan

We know that pregnancy scans are not always easy for expectant mothers which is why we are dedicated to providing you with the highest levels of support throughout the process.

In most cases, you will not need to prepare much for a pregnancy scan. You might be asked to drink some water beforehand to ensure you have a full bladder, as this can help provide clearer images. During the scan, you will lie on a table and the doctor will apply a gel to your abdomen. They will then move a small device called a transducer over your stomach to provide images on a screen.

This ultrasound scan is painless and non-invasive, and depending on the scan, can take between 15 and 45 minutes to complete. Afterwards, your doctor will provide you a report with your results. In most cases, everything is absolutely fine, and you will be able to return to your day with reassurance that your baby is developing well. If any issues are detected, your doctor may recommend further testing.
