Female fertility health check

One of our most popular services is the Female Fertility Health Check. This consists of:

  • Private consultations with a gynaecologist
  • Blood tests to check hormones and thyroid function
  • A transvaginal ultrasound

The purpose of this service is to provide an assessment of your overall reproductive health. Once your results are through, you can discuss these with a fertility specialist who will be able to advise on next steps.

Fertility treatments we offer

Depending on your individual problems, fertility treatments vary widely. It is important to sit down and have a proper consultation with a fertility specialist in order to determine the root cause of your fertility issues, whether this is difficulty getting pregnant or recurrent miscarriages. This way, they can help to map out the best course of treatment for you with the greatest likelihood of success.

Some treatments our fertility experts are able to offer and assist with include:

Ovulation induction

Ovulation induction is for women who have not yet reached menopause but fail to ovulate, usually presenting irregular or absent menstrual cycles. Some common causes for this condition include stress, weight fluctuations and PCOS.

It involves the use of hormonal therapy to stimulate the development and release of an egg.

Intra-uterine insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) or artificial insemination is a straightforward fertility treatment which involves the placement of sperm from the male partner (or donor) into the woman’s uterus, close to the time of ovulation. This is performed using a minimally invasive procedure that is similar to a cervical smear test.

In-vitro fertilisation (IVF)

IVF is a procedure whereby one or more eggs from the woman’s ovaries are removed and fertilised with sperm in a specialised laboratory. Once fertilised, embryos grow in a protected environment for some days before being transferred into the woman’s uterus for development.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a variation of IVF which involves injecting the best quality sperm directly into an egg to fertilise it. As with standard IVF, the fertilised egg (embryo) is then transferred into the woman’s uterus a few days later to continue growing as in normal pregnancy. Commonly, this can be used to overcome male infertility.

Follicular tracking

Follicular tracking is a diagnostic technique that involves a series of transvaginal ultrasound scans of the ovaries and endometrial lining. These scans are performed using a sterile probe and are relatively painless. Follicle tracking is a vital component of IVF assessment and is often used before and during ovarian stimulation.

Reproductive immunology

Reproductive immunology is a highly specialised service designed to manage fertility problems related to a disrupted or defective immune response. It involves a range of tests to investigate the cause of recurrent miscarriage or infertility to offer a more targeted fertility treatment.

Fertility preservation (including egg freezing)

Fertility preservation options for women include egg and embryo freezing, which are considered if a patient’s fertility is at risk due to medical conditions or to give a better chance of conceiving at an older age. Vitrification technology allows specimens to be stored for an indefinite period of time.

Egg donation programme

Egg donation, or IVF with donated eggs, is a solution for women who are unable to conceive using their own eggs, either due to a medical condition or failed attempts to conceive naturally at an older age. During this process, donor eggs are fertilised in the laboratory with sperm from either the recipient’s partner or sperm bank. The resulting embryos are transferred into the recipient’s uterus.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy is a process of aided reproduction where future parents actively work with a surrogate who carries the pregnancy until birth. The intended parent(s) become the legal parent(s) of a child born through surrogacy.

Recurrent miscarriage diagnosis

A C4M2 test, which is carried out via a saliva swab-based sample, detects genetic mutation in the gene that predisposes patients to a risk of miscarriage in early pregnancy. Once identified, this genetic mutation can be treated with medication.
