Vulvoscopy Clinic London

For those concerned about vulval itching, burning, pain or other symptoms, a vulvoscopy at our dedicated Vulvoscopy Clinic in Central London can help rule out serious causes and put your mind at ease.

Vulvoscopy Clinic on Harley Street

Our Vulvoscopy Clinic is designed for any women experiencing unusual vulva symptoms or those who have symptoms of vulval cancer. If you are experiencing any symptoms such as itching, burning or pain, it is important to get this checked out, as it may be a sign of HPV which can be a precursor of vulval cancer.

A vulvoscopy is a test that looks at the vulva through a microscope to check for any changes that can’t be seen by the naked eye. If anything unusual is discovered, a biopsy is usually taken which will be sent to be tested for cancer. Most vulvoscopies do not show any cancer, but it is always worth checking to put your mind at ease. Our vulvoscopy specialist Mr Ashfaq Khan will work with you to find out the source of your symptoms.

What is a vulvoscopy?

A vulvoscopy examines the skin of the vulva using a telescope called a colposcope. Acetic acid and iodine are applied to the skin of the vulva, which highlights any abnormal cells, which can cause mild irritation. If abnormal cells are detected during the vulvoscopy, a biopsy will be taken.

What does it look for?

A vulvoscopy is done to exclude vulval pre-cancer caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It is also carried out to look for Vulval Lichen Sclerosus (LS). In very rare cases, LS can lead to vulval cancer, so it is important to get any abnormal signs or symptoms of the vulva checked.
