ENQUIRE NOW
Abnormal smear test

Most often, the abnormal test result means there have been cell changes caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

If you are concerned about abnormal smear test results, you can have a colposcopy to check for any changes not able to be seen by the naked eye.

Heavy periods

Menorrhagia is the medical term for menstrual periods with abnormally heavy or prolonged bleeding.

Early pregnancy bleeding

Bleeding and or pain are relatively common early in a pregnancy but understandably these symptoms are very worrying for any couple due to concerns about either miscarriage or more rarely ectopic pregnancy. In most situations, a reassurance scan provides the peace of mind needed to enjoy the pregnancy.

Bleeding after menopause

The cause of your bleeding may be completely harmless. However, postmenopausal bleeding could result from something serious, so it is important to see a gynaecologist.

Endometriosis

This is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

Polyps

This is where the cell overgrowth is located in the lining (endometrium) of the womb (uterus).

Fibroids

These are noncancerous growths of the uterus that usually appear during childbearing years.

Ovarian cysts

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs in the ovary. They are common and usually form during ovulation. The cysts are usually harmless but it is best to monitor them with your gynaecologist to ensure they are not changing in charge or size.

PCOS

While there is currently no cure for PCOS, there are several treatment options aimed at managing and reducing the symptoms.

Vulva pain

Most women will experience vulval discomfort at some time in their life and if the pain persists, it is best to see a gynaecologist for reassurance.

Pelvic pain

In women, pelvic pain may be a sign of menstrual cramps, ovulation, or a gastrointestinal issue such as a food intolerance. It can also develop due to a more serious problem. Sometimes, pelvic pain is an indicator of an infection or issue with the reproductive system or other organs in the area.

Prolapse and pelvic floor problems

There are various treatment options available for women who are suffering from pelvic organ prolapse and not all of them require surgery.

Recurrent miscarriages

There are a variety of potential causes, some being more common than others, and there are available treatments to help improve the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Anterior repair of the vagina wall

A prolapse of the anterior vaginal wall is a common cause of urinary incontinence, and it is one that can be effectively treated through anterior vaginal wall repair. An anterior vaginal wall repair is done via an incision in the vaginal wall. The weakness in the vaginal wall will be repaired using stitches or the removal of excess skin.

Diagnostic laparoscopy and dye test

This procedure is to help understand ongoing fertility issues. The dye test will show if your fallopian tubes are blocked. The laparoscopy will help find out if you have endometriosis, pelvic infection, adhesions, ovarian cysts or fibroids.

Bartholin Cyst Examination

A Bartholin cyst is a common issue and is a small fluid-filled sac near the entrance of the vagina. They are not usually cause for concern, but if they grow too large, they may become uncomfortable. There are a range of treatment options available if a patient’s Bartholin cyst is causing them discomfort or problems with their day-to-day life. First, a diagnosis will be made through a visual examination of the vagina and a biopsy to rule out possible issues like cancer. Sexually transmitted diseases may also be tested for.

Colposcopy

A coloposcopy is a test that examines the cervix to look for any signs of cervical cancer. It is often performed if a smear test picks up signs of HPV. It may involve having a biopsy taken to be tested for abnormal cells.

HRT

This is a treatment to relieve symptoms of the menopause by replacing hormones that are at a lower level as you approach the menopause.

Contraceptive coil

This can be inserted for numerous reasons including, contraception, heavy bleeding or to protect the womb during menopause.

Laparoscopic Myomectomy

A myomectomy is performed to remove fibroids and is typically used as an alternative to a hysterectomy in women who want to maintain their fertility. A laparoscopic myomectomy is minimally invasive and done using what is commonly known as keyhole surgery. Several small incisions will be made to access and remove the fibroids, with the keyhole surgery ensuring that recovery is faster and safer than open surgery. Laparoscopic myomectomy may be used to diagnose issues like cancer or endometriosis.

Posterior Vaginal Wall Repair

Posterior vaginal wall repair, like anterior wall repair, is made via an incision in the vaginal wall. Posterior vaginal wall prolapse can cause issues with bowel function and can be uncomfortable or upsetting to live with. Stitches will be placed to ensure that the posterior vaginal wall can support itself. These stitches will usually dissolve within a few weeks or months, depending on the type of stitches a surgeon uses.

Uro-gynaecology

We are able to provide assessment, investigations and treatment for women with Gynaecology and Urology related issues including urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections and vaginal prolapse.

Hysteroscopic Examination

Hysteroscopy is a common procedure that allows a doctor to examine the inside of the uterus. It is performed using a small tube with a light that is inserted into the vagina. Hysteroscopy may be used as a diagnostic tool or as a treatment in and of itself. It is most often used to help diagnose the causes of unexpected vaginal bleeding or pain. Conditions like polyps, fibroids and uterine adhesions can all be diagnosed using hysteroscopy.

Ovarian cyst removal

Ovarian cysts can usually be removed using a surgical procedure called laparoscopy, but sometimes open surgery is necessary.

Hysterectomy

This surgical procedure is to remove the uterus and is carried out for numerous reasons including: uterine fibroids that cause pain, bleeding, or other problems.

Early pregnancy and reassurance scanning

The scan usually takes place between 8 and 14 weeks and allows us to tell you the all-important due date.
The early pregnancy scan, sometimes known as the dating scan, will be the first ultrasound you have with us at 25 Harley Street. It provides important information and reassurance to both you and your medical team.

Cosmetic gynaecology

A Labiaplasty is a procedure that reduces the size or reshapes the labia. After childbirth or as we age the shape of the labia may change.

Vulvoscopy

A vulvoscopy checks for signs of vulval cancer. It is recommended if you have unusual vulval symptoms such as burning, itching or pain.

Our vulvoscopy clinic provides you with a consultation with an expert gynaecologist, a scan, and quick and accurate results to get to the bottom of your vulval problems.
