Mr Lorenzo Garagnani is a highly specialised Consultant Hand & Wrist Surgeon who treats the whole spectrum of disorders of the hand and wrist both in adults and children.
He is the joint Lead of the Hand Unit and Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He is also Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine of King’s College London and the Trust’s Lead of Undergraduate Medical Education in Orthopaedics and Year 3 Trauma Block.
Mr Garagnani qualified at Bologna University (Italy). He trained in Trauma & Orthopaedics, mainly based at Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, a leading institution in the field of Orthopaedics. He completed his sub-specialist training in Hand and Wrist Surgery in the UK. Lorenzo was Hand Fellow at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of the Oxford University Hospitals, Hand Fellow at the Hand Clinic in Windsor, Hand Fellow at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Children’s Congenital Hand Fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. As a specialist Hand & Wrist surgeon, he worked also at Humanitas Clinical Institute (Milan, Italy), was locum Consultant at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London and Consultant at the Department of Hand Surgery and Microsurgery of Policlinico di Modena University Hospital (Modena, Italy) where he was joint Lead of the children’s congenital upper limb and hand anomalies service.
Mr Garagnani also obtained the European Diploma in Hand Surgery of the European Board of Hand Surgery (EBHS)/Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH).
Mr Garagnani has a broad adult and paediatric hand and wrist surgery practice, is author of numerous peer reviewed scientific publications and book chapters, he is reviewer for international scientific journals and regular speaker and invited faculty member at national and international conferences and courses.
He has a keen interest in medical education and regularly teaches medical students and trains international Hand Fellows and Orthopaedic and Plastic surgery trainees.
Mr Garagnani is Director of the International Bone Research Association (IBRA) London Upper Limb Fellowship, tutor for the British Diploma in Hand Surgery and examiner and member of the examination committee of the European Diploma in Hand Surgery. He is the current President of the Paediatric Hand International Society of Surgeons (PHISOS), Secretary General of the Italian Medical Society of Great Britain (IMSoGB) and sits on the International Relations Committee and on the International Traveling Fellows Committee of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). He is also past member of the Guidelines Committee of SICM (Italian Society for Surgery of the Hand) and member of a number of international scientific societies.
Mr Garagnani is internationally recognised for his work and research on new minimally invasive techniques that allow reduction of surgical morbidity in hand and wrist surgery.
