Dr Whyte qualified in medicine in 1998 from King’s College London, having previously been awarded a Bachelor of Science degree during his studies funded by a Medical Research Council Scholarship Award.

He then undertook general and specialist training in Diabetes & Endocrinology in London, including King’s College Hospital, Guys Hospital and St.Thomas Hospitals. Dr.Whyte was awarded a PhD in 2010 from King’s College London for the study of insulin action in critical illness. Since 2012 he has combined his clinical duties in general medicine and diabetes at King’s College Hospital, with an academic position at the University of Surrey.

In 2021, Dr Whyte was appointed Reader (Associate Professor) in Metabolic Medicine.

He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and has served as a member of the examination committee at the Royal College. He has published widely in the field of diabetes, obesity, fatty liver disease and metabolic medicine. Dr Whyte bases his medical practice in these area but also has a keen interest in general medicine and sees patients for general health checks and for cardiovascular risk assessment.
