Liposuction at Phoenix Hospital Group

Liposuction, sometimes called lipoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes stubborn areas of fat from the body to create a more defined shape. Surgeons can carry it out as one procedure or combined with others for enhanced results.

During your consultation, you and your surgeon will decide which areas to target and which technique is best for you. This joint decision ensures you feel confident and comfortable with the plan before surgery.

Our expert plastic surgeons use advanced techniques and take a personalised approach to help you achieve natural-looking results tailored to your goals.

Is liposuction right for me?

Liposuction may be an option if you’d like to smooth or reshape particular areas of your body where fat is harder to lose. It works best for people who are already at a healthy body weight but want to refine their shape in specific places.

Your surgeon will discuss your health, lifestyle and goals during your consultation, so you’ll know whether liposuction is the right approach for you and what results you can expect.

Why choose Phoenix Hospital Group for liposuction?

How is liposuction performed?

Surgeons typically perform liposuction under either local or general anaesthesia, depending on the treatment areas. In many cases, you can return home the same day, although sometimes we recommend an overnight stay.

During the procedure, your surgeon makes a small incision in the skin and passes a fine hollow tube, called a cannula, into the fatty tissue. They then move the cannula gently to loosen the fat cells and remove them using a suction device.

The procedure can take between one and four hours, depending on how much fat the surgeon removes and which areas they treat.

Types of liposuction techniques we offer at Phoenix Hospital Group

Your surgeon can use various techniques for liposuction. The ideal one for you will depend on the treated area and the amount of fat removed.

Suction-assisted liposuction

In this most common method, your surgeon makes a tiny incision and gently inserts a fine cannula into the fatty tissue. The cannula is attached to a vacuum device, which carefully breaks up and removes the fat cells.

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL)

PAL uses a cannula with a vibrating movement, which helps to loosen fat more easily. This action means the surgeon doesn’t need to make as many manual movements while removing fat in the same way as standard liposuction.

Wet liposuction

In this method, the surgeon injects a small amount of anaesthetic solution into the treatment area before removing the fat.

Super-wet liposuction

Here, the amount of fluid injected matches the volume of fat to be removed. Surgeons often prefer this approach when treating larger areas.

Dry liposuction

In dry liposuction, the surgeon doesn’t use an anaesthetic solution before removing the fat. This method is rarely used and, when it is, only in minimal areas.

Tumescent liposuction

With this technique, the surgeon injects a larger volume of solution into the fatty tissue, making it easier and safer to remove the fat.

Your liposuction journey with Phoenix Hospital Group

If you’re thinking about liposuction, your journey begins with a detailed consultation with one of our experienced surgeons. They’ll discuss your goals, review your medical history and make sure your expectations are realistic. Every patient is different, so we’ll tailor your care to suit your needs.

What happens on the day of my procedure?

On the day, our friendly hospital team will welcome you and help you settle in. You’ll meet your surgeon and anaesthetist again before surgery, and your dedicated nurse will be there to support you.

We usually ask you to arrive a few hours beforehand so we can complete final checks and give you time to relax. Once you’re ready, we’ll administer your anaesthetic and your procedure will begin. We’ll explain each step so you know exactly what to expect.

What happens after the procedure?

When your surgery is complete, our recovery team will make sure you’re comfortable before returning you to your private room. You’ll already be wearing your post-surgical compression garment, which helps to support healing and reduce swelling.

We’ll only discharge you when you’re eating, drinking and ready to go home. It’s essential to arrange for someone to collect you and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

Most people take around two weeks off work to recover. You should use this time to rest and allow your body to heal. You’ll return to see one of our clinic nurses within this period to have your dressings removed and your progress checked.

Your surgeon will see you again in around six weeks, although follow-up can happen sooner if needed.

Liposuction results

Liposuction can create a slimmer, more contoured appearance by targeting areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Results are long-lasting as the fat cells removed don’t grow back.

Maintaining a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle will help you enjoy the benefits for many years to come.

Liposuction FAQs

We know you may have queries when considering surgery. Here are some of the most common questions our patients ask about liposuction.

What areas can be treated with liposuction?

We can treat many areas with liposuction. You can discuss which areas you’d like liposuction on during your consultation.

We can perform liposuction on your:

  • Chin and neck
  • Chest
  • Stomach
  • Upper thighs
  • Knees
  • Upper arms
  • Hips
  • Face

How much does liposuction cost?

The cost varies as every patient’s needs are unique. Your surgeon will provide a precise, personalised quote at your consultation, so you’ll know exactly what they have included and won’t face any hidden charges.

How long does it take to recover after liposuction?

Most people need at least two weeks to rest and recover. You’ll also have a follow-up with your surgeon at around six weeks to check your progress and make sure you’re healing well.

Does liposuction get rid of cellulite?

Liposuction removes fat, but it doesn’t treat cellulite. Cellulite sits much closer to the skin’s surface and isn’t affected by liposuction techniques.

How much fat can liposuction remove?

Surgeons usually measure fat removal in litres. The safe maximum is around five litres, which is roughly five kilograms.

Can fat come back after an area is treated with liposuction?

The fat cells removed during liposuction don’t grow back. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle, your results should last. However, if you gain significant weight, new fat cells can form in the treated area.
