Facelift Surgery

Facelift surgery rejuvenates your appearance, tightening loose skin and minimising fine lines and wrinkles. At Phoenix Hospital Group, we provide personalised facelift surgery to help you achieve your personal goals.

Our specialist cosmetic surgeons consider your unique features when performing facelift surgery, ensuring you feel confident in your results.

What is facelift surgery?

Facelift surgery, or a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure that reduces signs of ageing by repositioning or removing the skin, fat or muscle from your face. Facelift surgery aims to achieve a youthful appearance (although it cannot completely stop signs of ageing).

Facelifts cannot treat superficial wrinkles, sun damage or changes in pigmentation.

There are different types of facelifts. During a consultation, we’ll discuss the options that may suit your needs to ensure we achieve your desired results. At Phoenix Hospital Group, we take a personalised approach to facelift surgery. This practice considers your goals, facial structure and harmony to enhance your results

Who is facelift surgery suitable for?

Before you have facelift surgery, you’ll have a thorough consultation with one of our plastic surgeons. They’ll check your overall health and that you’re well enough to undergo surgery. They’ll also discuss your facelift goals and assess your skin’s condition to confirm whether you’re a suitable candidate.

Facelift surgery might suit you if you:

  • Have signs of ageing like sagging skin or deep wrinkles
  • Still have a strong bone structure
  • Have some elasticity left in your skin

Generally, we perform facelift surgery on people aged between 40 and 60. However, we can also perform it if you’re older than this should your surgeon agree to it.

Why choose Phoenix Hospital Group for your facelift surgery?

Facelift surgery procedure

At Phoenix Hospital Group, we perform facelift surgery under general anaesthetic (where you’re asleep the entire time) or through twilight anaesthesia (a milder sedative that helps you remain calm and not feel any pain while remaining conscious).

Once we have given you the anaesthetic, your surgeon will make incisions to begin the surgery.

Depending on your goals, facial structure and your agreed type of facelift, the incisions may be made:

At your temples

Behind your ears

Under your chin

In your lower scalp

When the surgeon makes the incisions, they’ll lift and pull the skin up. Depending on your needs and desired look, they may also remove skin, muscle or fat. During your consultation, we’ll discuss what to expect with you so you’re as well-informed as possible beforehand.

After positioning your skin, your surgeon will then use stitches to hold it in place, before closing the incisions.

Facelift surgery recovery

Once your facelift surgery is completed, we’ll take you to a recovery room for observation and support. You’ll then stay here until your anaesthetic or sedative has worn off.

After you’ve woken up, we’ll help ensure you’re completely stable before going home. You must arrange transport to and from Phoenix Hospital Group as you cannot drive for 24 hours.

We’ll provide all the aftercare information you need to support your recovery at home. We will also advise you on which pain relief medication to use and how to manage any discomfort you experience during your recovery.

Facelift surgery results

Facelift surgery causes temporary bruising and swelling that lasts for around three weeks. It’s also worth bearing in mind that people heal at different rates, so you may not see your final results until at least three weeks have passed.

It may also take up to three months for you to feel fully recovered.

In most cases, the results of your facelift surgery will be visible immediately, but it can take some time for your swelling to reduce and the final results to appear.

Facelift surgery FAQs

How long does facelift surgery take?

Facelift surgery can take between three and six hours – depending on the type of facelift and the extent of the procedure.

Does facelift surgery have any risks?

All surgeries carry potential risks, but our expert team will do everything possible to minimise any complications.

Some potential risks of facelift surgery include infection, changes in skin sensation, temporary or permanent hair loss at incision sites, scarring and changes in skin pigmentation. Talk to our team if you’d like to learn more about the risks involved.

How long will my facelift surgery results last?

Generally, facelift surgery results last around ten years. However, various factors will influence how long your results last.

For example, losing or gaining weight can change your face shape. Similarly, facelift surgery cannot stop ageing, so as you age, your skin may start to sag and become wrinkly again.
