ENQUIRE NOW
PCOS

Most women with PCOS have elevated levels of luteinising hormone and reduced levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).

Menopause

Endocrine function usually declines with age. In women, the decline in estrogen levels leads to menopause.

Fertility

Hormonal imbalances are the leading cause of infertility in women, but are often treatable with lifestyle changes and medications.

Fatigue

Endocrine disorders may present with nonspecific symptoms including fatigue. The possibility of endocrine disease in this setting is important.

Adrenal Disease

We diagnose and treat adrenal gland disorders, including pheochromocytoma, Cushing’s syndrome (elevated cortisol), and Conn’s syndrome (elevated aldosterone)

Hypertension

This is a type of high blood pressure caused by a hormone imbalance originating in the pituitary or adrenal gland and can be caused when the glands produce too much or not enough of the hormones they normally secrete.

Osteoporosis

Endocrine disorders can play a large role in the development of osteoporosis, including having high thyroid hormone levels, parathyroid hormone levels, and cortisol levels.

Pancreas (diabetes)

By regulating your blood sugar levels, the pancreatic hormones are directly related to some of the most common diseases of today, including diabetes

Surgery we offer

Our endocrine surgery service treats thyroid disease, including goitre, thyroid lumps and thyroid cancer.

FIND A SPECIALIST
Total Thyroidectomy

Your surgeon will remove the entire gland and the lymph nodes surrounding the gland. Both sections (lobes) of the thyroid gland are usually removed.

Thyroid Lobectomy with or without an Isthmectomy

If your thyroid nodules are located in one lobe, your surgeon will remove only that lobe (lobectomy). With an isthmectomy, the narrow band of tissue (isthmus) that connects the two lobes also is removed.

Subtotal (near-total) Thyroidectomy

Your surgeon will remove one complete lobe, the isthmus, and part of the other lobe. This is used for hyperthyroidism caused by Graves disease.

Endoscopic thyroidectomies can be performed via several small incisions through which a tiny camera and instruments are passed.

Parathyroidectomy (removal of the parathyroid gland)

Minimally invasive parathyroid surgery involves trying to locate the bad parathyroid gland using a sestamibi scan and ultrasound scan prior to surgery.
Once the effected parathyroid gland is located, the endocrine surgeon can then use a smaller incision of 2cm to gain access and remove the parathyroid tumour.

Afirma Thyroid Test

Our thyroid is easy to forget but really important to good health. This butterfly-shaped gland at the front of your neck releases powerful hormones that help regulate your metabolism.

The Afirma Thyroid FNA Analysis allows you to get the full clinical story about your thyroid nodule. More complete information helps to avoid unnecessary surgeries, cost and anxiety.

Radio Frequency Thyroid Ablation

Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation is a minimally invasive treatment used to reduce the size of symptomatic benign thyroid nodules.

Thyroid nodules are lumps in the thyroid gland, which are usually benign. If large enough, benign nodules can cause symptoms of pressure in the neck and difficulty in swallowing due to their size. They may also produce a visible or palpable swelling in the neck. Radiofrequency ablation reduces the size of benign thyroid nodules. The technique uses a special needle which is guided into the thyroid nodules under ultrasound guidance. An electric current is passed through the needle tip, heating the thyroid tissue immediately around it.
