Breast Uplift Surgery

Breast uplift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is a procedure that lifts and reshapes your breasts. It helps restore a firmer, more youthful appearance, improving confidence and comfort.

At Phoenix Hospital Group, our experienced plastic surgeons offer personalised breast uplift surgery in London and Chelmsford, supporting you with expert care from consultation through to recovery

Breast uplift surgery with Phoenix Hospital Group

We understand that the appearance of your breasts can affect how you feel about your body. Some women seek breast uplift surgery when they begin to notice a loss of firmness or shape. Generally, this procedure lifts and reshapes the breasts without increasing their size. However, breast implants can sometimes be included.

As we age, the skin loses elasticity. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations and genetic factors can also lead to sagging, leaving some women feeling self-conscious about their appearance. Mastopexy addresses this by removing excess skin and repositioning breast tissue and the nipple to restore a more natural, uplifted shape.

Our consultant-led breast uplift procedures are delivered from our prestigious Harley Street clinics and modern hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. Every aspect of your care is carefully considered, and we’ll work with you to understand your goals, manage your expectations and help you achieve natural, long-lasting results in a supportive environment.

Who is breast uplift surgery for?

Breast uplift surgery may be appropriate for women who are unhappy with the position or shape of their breasts but aren’t seeking to increase breast size.

Mastopexy may also be right for you if:

  • Your breasts have lost shape or volume over time
  • Your nipples point downward or sit below the crease of the breast
  • Pregnancy, ageing or weight changes have altered the appearance of your breasts
  • One breast is positioned lower than the other
  • You would like a firmer, more lifted breast contour without implants

During your consultation, a specialist plastic surgeon will listen carefully to your concerns and goals. Together, you’ll explore whether a standalone uplift or a combined procedure, such as with breast implants or fat transfer, is the most suitable approach.

Why choose Phoenix Hospital Group for your breast uplift surgery?

The breast uplift surgery: how does it work?

Breast uplift surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and typically takes two and a half hours.

The surgical approach is tailored to your needs. Incisions are most often made around the areola (the area of darker skin around your nipple) and vertically down to the crease under the breast. In some cases, an additional incision along the crease may be needed.

Your surgeon will remove excess skin, reshape the underlying breast tissue and reposition the nipples higher on the chest wall. The goal is a more natural, youthful breast contour.

If you would also like to increase volume, breast implants or fat transfer can be added during the same procedure. Your surgeon will explain the benefits and considerations of each type of breast augmentation and guide you to an informed decision.

Once reshaping is complete, your surgeon will use dissolvable stitches to close the incisions and apply dressings to protect the area and support healing.

Breast uplift surgery recovery and aftercare

Your recovery is a key part of the surgical journey. We provide a clear, personalised aftercare plan to help you heal comfortably and safely.

After surgery:

  • You’ll recover in a calm, monitored environment under the care of our clinical team
  • Most patients go home the same day or after an overnight stay, depending on the complexity of the procedure
  • A supportive surgical bra will be provided to minimise swelling and aid recovery

You may notice some swelling, bruising and tenderness in the days following your surgery. These are normal side effects, and we’ll provide gentle, effective pain relief to keep you comfortable. Our team will stay in close contact during your recovery, so you’ll never feel alone or unsure about what’s next.

We recommend:

  • Taking two weeks away from work to rest
  • Avoiding strenuous activity or lifting for six weeks
  • Attending all scheduled follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing

Our team remains available throughout your recovery to answer questions, address concerns and offer reassurance.

Breast uplift results

Initial improvements in shape and position are often visible straight away, although it may take several months for swelling to subside and final results to settle.

Following a full recovery, most patients experience:

  • A firmer, more youthful breast shape
  • Improved breast symmetry and contour
  • A higher nipple position with a natural appearance
  • Long-lasting results that reflect your goals

While breast tissue continues to age naturally, the results of a breast uplift are long-lasting. Maintaining a stable weight and following a healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results for many years.

Breast uplift surgery frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Will I have scars after breast uplift surgery?

Yes, there will be scars as the procedure involves incisions. However, our surgeons use techniques designed to minimise and conceal them where possible. With time and good care, most scars fade significantly.

Can I have breast implants at the same time?

Yes. If you wish to restore both volume and shape, your surgeon may recommend combining mastopexy with breast implants or fat transfer. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this during your consultation.

Is breast uplift surgery painful?

You won’t feel anything during the procedure, as you’ll be under general anaesthetic. After surgery, some tenderness is normal, but we’ll support you with pain relief and detailed advice to help manage any discomfort.

How long will it take to recover?

Most women return to their usual daily activities within one to two weeks. You should avoid lifting and exercise for at least four to six weeks. Wearing a support bra during this time helps ensure optimal healing.

How much does breast uplift surgery cost?

The cost of breast uplift surgery without implants depends on your individual needs and the complexity of the procedure. During your consultation, your surgeon will assess you and provide a clear, personalised quote.

We’re always transparent with our pricing. Your package includes everything – from initial consultation and pre-assessment to surgery, hospital stay and aftercare – with no hidden costs.

Will my breasts be smaller after breast uplift surgery?

Breast uplift surgery lifts and reshapes the breasts without reducing their volume. Your cup size may change slightly due to the new profile, but the aim is to restore shape, not reduce size.

You may need a different bra style after surgery. Your surgeon will recommend wearing a supportive surgical bra for around six weeks to aid healing and comfort.

Will I need further surgery in the future?

Mastopexy provides long-term results, but ageing, weight changes and lifestyle factors can affect breast shape over time. Some patients choose to have revision surgery years later to maintain their desired appearance.
