Menopause Clinic on Harley Street

All women will have to go through the menopause in their lifetime as it is a natural part of the aging process. While it is often accompanied by physical and emotional symptoms that can be difficult to deal with, there is support available to help you reduce your symptoms.

Our menopause specialists will spend time with you to recommend personalised treatments and lifestyle changes based on your individual symptoms.

How our menopause specialists can help

We work with expert gynaecologists who will spend the time to get to know you and your symptoms. From here, they will develop a treatment plan entirely personalised to your specific requirements. This is likely to include the following:

BOOK AN APPOINTMENT
Initial consultation

Your initial consultation will give you the opportunity to explain in-depth the symptoms you are struggling with and give your consultant a picture of your general health.

Blood tests

You are likely to need some blood tests, but this may vary depending on your case and symptoms. Blood tests will check your hormones and rule out other common causes of your symptoms to make sure they are at the right levels and to inform the best path of treatment.

Non-hormonal treatments

Non-hormonal treatments can include taking specific vitamins or nutrients, or evidence-based phytotherapy. The best option for you will depend on your symptoms.

Hormonal treatments

Hormonal treatments that may be recommended for support with your menopause symptoms include estradiol and natural progesterone. This is because during the menopause, both estradiol and progesterone are not being produced anymore and this can show up with many symptoms and health issues.

Lifestyle recommendations

The Specialist will also discuss with you lifestyle modifications that will make a significant difference in regaining your wellbeing and managing your symptoms. Some lifestyle changes you may be recommended include a nutritious menu plan and specific exercises to maintain a healthy weight, and taking measures to reduce stress levels.

We will be able to support with guidance on how you can adopt these lifestyle changes.

Follow-up consultation

As perimenopause and postmenopause are a wavering phase with many changes occurring throughout the years, you will be able to see your gynaecologist for follow-up appointments to readjust treatments as these changes occur and according to how you have been feeling.

Menopause symptoms we can treat

Menopause symptoms can vary from person to person, but some you may be experiencing that we can help with include:

  • Problems with concentration and memory
  • Hair loss
  • Poor eyesight
  • Heart palpitations
  • Reduced sex drive or discomfort during sex
  • Mood changes
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • Hot flushes and/or night sweats
Menopause symptoms we can treat

Menopause and weight gain

A lot of menopausal women struggle with their weight for a number of reasons. The main reason is the lack of oestrogen, which affects the way we process sugars and fats. We tend to lose muscle mass as we get older, a low mood can lead us to eat more processed foods, and menopause symptoms such as difficulty sleeping can contribute to weight gain. This often hits our body image and self-esteem and can in turn affect our relationships.

Oestrogen deficiency also increases the chance of heart problems. In order to reduce your risk of health problems, it is ideal to stick to a healthy weight during the menopause, although we know that this can be difficult. If you are struggling with your weight, we work with weight loss and metabolism experts to provide personalised advice about healthy diets and exercise plans that can help you stay healthy during the menopause.
