The post holder must possess the following:

  • BSc(Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • Health Professions Council Registration
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to teach and mentor more junior staff and new members of staff.
  • Ability to cope with work pressures and manage time effectively
  • Ability to cope with conflict and complaints at local level commensurate with Trust policies
  • Ability to make prompt decisions based on knowledge, experience and circumstances
  • Ability to work using own initiative but also to know when to seek assistance and guidance.
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills.
  • Keep all records up to date in a clear, accurate and concise manner on a day-to-day basis



  • To assist in the provision of an efficient radiology service.
  • To work as part of a professional radiography team providing a high quality diagnostic service.
  • To maintain a sensitive and courteous approach to patients.
  • To develop and improve professional expertise via continuous professional development (CPD).




1.1 To carry out radiographic examinations across a range of modalities to the agreed standard of the department.

1.2 To maintain a high standard of patient care and comfort and be patient focused at all times.

1.3 To work in an efficient and effective manner at all times.

1.4 To appear on duty promptly and appropriately dressed and behave in a professional manner at all times.

1.5 To plan, prioritise and organise own workload.

1.6 To vet request forms for validity and appropriateness.

1.7 To determine whether repeat X-rays or extra projections are required.

1.8 To undertake IV injections in line with departmental policy.

1.9 To report any untoward incidents and equipment failure to the area superintendent radiographer.

1.10 To work unsupervised as and when required.

1.11 To work using own initiative but be aware own limitations and seek guidance when necessary.

1.12 To work flexibly based on requirements of service.

1.13 To carry out duties which may be considered necessary and consistent with the responsibilities of the post

1.14 Commitment to active participation for the out of hours service and perform rostered duties as part of contractual hours

1.15 Complete high quality examinations consistent with ALARA

1.16 Supervise junior staff consistent with company and local policies and procedures



2.1 To liaise and communicate effectively with other staff both within and external to the department regarding patient care and ensure that effective communication is implemented and maintained.

2.2 To keep accurate records of patient examinations in line with departmental protocols.

2.3 To be familiar with the RIS departmental system and to ensure all examinations have been entered onto the system and post entered.



3.1 To be actively involved in the department audit and quality assurance programme.

3.2 To deputise for more senior radiographers as and when required.

3.3 To supervise junior members of staff and help expand their knowledge and skills.



4.1 To undertake any formal or informal training required to fulfil the needs of the post.

4.2 To expand and update your own technical and professional skills.

4.3 To assist in the clinical instruction and assessment of student radiographers.

4.4 To participate in the departmental appraisal system.

4.5 To participate in and fully contribute to departmental and professional activities.

4.6 To undertake all mandatory training in line with Company and Department policies including Manual Handling, Infection Control.

4.7 To undertake continuous professional development in line with College of Radiographers and Health Professions Council guidelines.

4.8 Offer Demonstrable evidence of CPD



5.1 To participate in the departmental working hours rotation including weekend and evening shifts.

5.2 To participate in the shift pattern accordingly, as the department has moved towards the 7 day working week.

5.3 To observe the “Code of Practice for the use of Ionising Radiations” and the IR(ME)R regulations.

5.4 To be aware of and adhere to Company, Directorate and Department policies.

5.5 To maintain professional registration with HCPC.
