Phoenix Hospital Group is one of the UKs leading private healthcare providers with a state of the art hospital on Weymouth Street in central London, a new hospital in Chelmsford and prestigious consulting rooms at 9 and 25 Harley Street.

We are currently expanding the Pre-assessment team and looking for a Pre-Assessment Healthcare Assistant.

Role Purpose:

To assist the pre-assessment patient pathway ultimately ensuring patient safety, appropriate discharge planning and prevention of same day surgical cancellations. To support the Outpatient team in appropriate diagnostic testing where necessary and the development of referral pathways.

Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to

Clinical: To work closely with the pre-assessment nurse, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care within protocols

  • Undertake a risk assessment for the patient anaesthetically and surgically
  • Carrying a caseload and organise own workload
  • Assist patients in filling out the pre-assessment questionnaire
  • Implement intervention based on the results of the assessment and investigations in the pre-assessment of patients
  • Undertake MRSA screening according to infection control policy
  • Identify cultural requirements, communication and other special needs
  • Obtains further specialist advice as required
  • Undertake a role in health promotion
  • Advise patients on their pre-operative medication requirements after instructions from the pre-assessment nurse
  • Maintain accurate patient records, completing documentation to ensure seamless multidisciplinary communication
  • Ensure 100% compliance with hand hygiene and infection control policy and procedures.
  • Assist pre-assessment nurse in developing and implementing service protocols on nationally accredited guidelines and valid research from recognised bodies
  • Participate in continuous audit of the pre-assessment service
  • Compile reports as required to communicate efficacy and shortcomings of the service to the Senior Management team
  • Ensure adherence to requirements from external bodies such as PROMS, and the National Joint Registry Education
  • To support the wider nursing team when the need arises
  • Assist in phlebotomy and other pathology services
  • Proactively support external clinics/secretaries in booking their patients for any appropriate diagnostic tests and referrals within PHG
  • Identify any clinical/diagnostic gaps within PHG which would support patients and consultants and ultimately increase business revenue
  • Working closely with ward and theatre managers to ensure appropriate skillset within clinical staff to manage any individual patient cases
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required and requested by the nurse Manager and/or Clinical Director

In addition:

  • Promote effective communication within all Phoenix departments
  • Adhere to the hospital/clinic and nursing/radiology policies, procedures and standards.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the PHG budget by promoting the cost effective utilization of resources.
  • Ensure safety checks, consent forms and any other necessary documentation is completed appropriately.
  • Report to Clinical Manager if any queries or concerns.
  • Support colleagues and work co-operatively to promote good team morale within PHG
  • Respond appropriately to telephone calls.
  • Be able to initiate clinic emergency policies and procedures.
  • Participate and take responsibility in personal development, mandatory training and appraisal system.
  • Become competent in the use of the in-house computer systems
  • Show initiative and work as a team
  • Take a lead on problem solving when required.

Qualifications / Skills & Knowledge / Qualities:

  • Healthcare Assistant
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a healthcare assistant within a surgical or a complex speciality.
  • Experience in a private hospital environment would be an advantage, but not essential
  • Ability to work confidently unsupervised
  • Enthusiastic and committed, a team player, flexible, physically able to carry out the role, sensitive to patient needs

Healthcare Assistant – Outpatient Clinics

Operating in central London, Phoenix Hospital Group provides hospital and diagnostic services within the private healthcare market and is renowned for the quality and range of services provided.

We are looking for a Healthcare assistant to join our nursing team in our outpatient departments. Candidate must be bright, proactive and a great team player.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support consultants during clinics.
  • Assist with procedures and minor operations under LA within dermatology, gynaecology, plastic surgery and more.
  • Cover phlebotomy clinics.
  • Preparing and setting up for clinics. Taking part in stocking and stock take.
  • Taking part in doing audits.
  • Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
  • Contribute to quality improvement.
  • Promote people‚Äôs equality, diversity and rights.

Essential:

  • Trained and experienced in phlebotomy
  • Experience within one or more of the following areas: Cosmetic surgery, wound care, theatre, dermatology, ENT, gynaecology.

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience from working within the private sector.
