What to expect during your gynaecomastia surgery
We perform male chest reduction surgery under general anaesthetic, so you’ll be asleep and comfortable throughout. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, your surgeon will make an incision around your nipple.
Next, they’ll remove the fatty tissue with either a scalpel or using liposuction (a machine that sucks fat from the body). They may also cut excess skin to help shape your breasts. If they remove a lot of tissue and skin, they may need to reposition your nipples to create a natural appearance.
Once the surgeon has removed enough tissue and skin, they will stitch the incisions, and we’ll take you to the recovery room. Gynaecomastia surgery typically takes around one and a half hours, and you must stay in the hospital overnight so we can monitor your initial recovery.
We’ll provide all the information you need about your surgery beforehand so you know what to expect. We’ll also give you detailed aftercare advice to manage your recovery at home effectively.
