An Adenoidectomy is an operation to remove the adenoids. The removal is very quick and is achieved by scraping them away using a curette or alternatively with a diathermy instrument that burns the adenoid away.
This procedure is used to treat blocked sinuses by inserting a small balloon into the sinus and inflating.
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is the name given to operations used for severe or difficult to treat sinus problems. Endoscopic sinus surgery allows the operation to be performed with minimally invasive techniques. The procedure involves the use of tiny instruments that combined with the use of the endoscope allows the surgeon to restore the proper drainage and ventilation relationship between the nasal and sinus cavities. The procedure is usually undertaken under general anaesthetic.
This procedure is used for the treatment of glue ear. A small tube called a grommet is inserted into the ear which helps drain away fluid and maintains the ears natural air pressure. In most cases the procedure can be done as a daycase procedure under general anaesthetic
This is surgery for a perforated eardrum. It is achieved using a small skin graft to the ear drum. A small piece of tissue is taken from the ear and used to seal up the perforation in the ear drum using a microscope and very delicate instruments. Depending on the severity of the perforation the length of stay can vary between half a day to 1 or 2 nights.
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is used to treat larger nasal polyps. An endoscope is used to allow the surgeon to see inside the sinus and tiny micro surgical instruments to remove the polyps. Once removed the patients breathing should be greatly improved. Often nasal polyps return so this surgery will often need to be repeated after a few years.
This procedure is to correct a deviated septum. The septum should run down the centre of the the two naval cavities however if it does not it can create breathing problems. The surgery is achieved by the excision and/or realignment of the cartilage and bone in the nose thus rectifying the deviation.
Septorhinoplasty is an operation to help with breathing problems and the appearance of the nose. It is a combination of the excision and/or realignment of the cartilage and bone of the septum (septoplasty) and the excision and/or realignment of the bones and cartilage that make up the structure of the nose itself. Septorhinoplasty not only improves the appearance of the nose, but it removes any internal obstructions that may be blocking breathing through the nose. Sometimes a graft or implant is used to achieve the intended result.
There are several different ways to remove tonsils. The most common method is called “cold knife steel dissection.” Simply put, your surgeon removes the tonsils with a scalpel. Another common method for Tonsillectomy includes burning away the tissues through a process called cauterization. Ultrasonic vibration (using sound waves) is also used in some Tonsillectomy procedures. The procedure takes around 30 minutes and is done under general anaesthetic.
This is surgery to reconstruct the ear drum and/or the small bones of the ear. It aims to improve hearing and middle ear function by eliminating middle ear disease.
