Breast Implant Removal

We offer breast implant removal surgery for women looking to reverse their breast enlargements.

Our expert team is highly experienced in performing breast implant removals and can ensure you leave with natural-looking results and relief from any complications your implants have caused.

What is breast implant removal?

Breast implant removal, or explant surgery, is a procedure to remove silicone implants from your breasts. Some women may decide to change their minds about their breast enlargement procedure or develop complications because of their implants.

However, with a breast implant removal, you can revert to your original breasts and alleviate complications.

We can perform other plastic surgery procedures at the same time as a breast implant removal, such as a breast lift or a breast fat transfer.

Surgeons can remove scar tissue during breast implant removal as well, and some women even decide to replace their implants during a removal procedure.

We’ll discuss all of your needs and goals during a comprehensive consultation with your plastic surgeon to ensure you receive the results you want.

Who is breast implant removal for?

Breast implants do not last forever. Generally, they last around ten years before they need replacing. Some women want their breast implants removed instead of replaced at this point, especially if they’ve experienced complications.

However, there are many reasons why a breast implant removal might suit you, including:

  • You want to transition to a natural, smaller look
  • Your body image goals, lifestyle or personal preferences have changed
  • You have experienced health problems, potentially because of your implants
  • You’ve developed complications, such as capsular contracture (hardening of scar tissue around the implants) or implant rupture (the implant bursts)

We’ll discuss your reasons for wanting breast implant removal and confirm if it’s suitable.

Breast implant removal procedure

We perform breast implant removal under general anaesthetic, so you’ll be asleep throughout.

First, your surgeon will make an incision in your breast to access the implant. They’ll then carefully remove the implant and any scar tissue that’s developed.

If you’re having other procedures done simultaneously, like implant replacement or a breast lift, they’ll perform this, too.

Finally, the surgeon will stitch the incisions, and we’ll take you to the recovery room, where we’ll monitor your initial recovery. You can go home either on the same day or the following day.

Breast implant removal recovery

Much like breast enlargement, breast implant removal requires a few weeks of downtime while you recover.

At first, you may have some tenderness and pain in your breasts and incisions. However, we’ll explain how you can manage your pain with over-the-counter or prescribed medication.

You may also need to wear a compression garment during your recovery to minimise swelling and support your breasts while they heal.

Always contact our team if you have any questions about your recovery, and we’ll be happy to help.

Breast implant removal results

After your implant removal, your breasts will look different from before. The skin may become loose or cause your breasts to look sagged because the skin has stretched to fit your implants. As such, once your implants have been removed, the skin can remain that way.

This is why some women choose to have a breast lift or breast fat transfer simultaneously. These procedures can help to remove excess skin and create a naturally lifted appearance.

After we have removed your breast implants, your breasts may change as you age or gain or lose weight.

Breast implant removal FAQs

Are there any risks with breast implant removal?

All surgeries have possible risks.

Possible breast implant removal risks include:

  • Asymmetry of your breasts
  • Infection
  • Bruising
  • Loose skin
  • Numbness or changes in nipple sensation
  • Scarring

However, our highly experienced team will take every precaution to minimise the risks.

How much does breast implant removal cost?

The cost for breast implant removal can vary depending on the extent of your surgery and if you’re having other procedures at the same time.

We offer monthly repayment plans for breast implant removals, so you can spread the cost of your treatment if you’d like to.

Is breast implant removal painful?

Feeling some discomfort and pain during your first week of recovery is typical. However, these feelings will fade as you continue to recover, and you can manage them with pain relief medication.

You won’t feel any pain during the procedure as you’ll be under general anaesthetic and asleep throughout.

Will I feel better after my breast implant removal?

If your breast implants are causing you health problems, you may find relief once a surgeon removes them and you’ve fully recovered.
