Guide to Choosing a Cosmetic Surgeon
Need help choosing the right cosmetic surgeon for you? Read our handy “how to” guide on choosing a cosmetic surgeon.
1. Are they properly qualified?
Qualified surgeons are listed on the GMC’s list of Specialist Plastic Surgeons. They may also be members of the professional organisations such as BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) and BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons).
2. Is your cosmetic surgeon a specialist in their field?
There are many different types of cosmetic surgery, so it is important to choose a specialist who has extensive knowledge and experience of the specific procedure that you are interested in.
3. Read reviews and testimonials
It is always good to have a look around at any reviews or testimonials there are on the surgeon your are choosing, to ensure that other patients of theirs are happy with their results, and to rule out any who might not have left such a good impression on their patients.
4. Meet with your cosmetic surgeon
Make sure that you meet your surgeon before the procedure so you are able to ask any questions you may have. Your consultation will always be with your chosen surgeon at Weymouth Street Hospital.
5. Make sure you feel comfortable with your cosmetic surgeon
Does your surgeon explain your procedure thoroughly? Do you fully understand what to expect from your surgery? Make sure that any decisions are your own. Your surgeon is there to advise and support you, not to make decisions for you.
6. Make sure to ask questions
Any reputable surgeon will understand that you will have questions about your surgery. Be sure to get all the answers you need before making a decision.
7. How much will it cost?
It is important to find out how much the procedure will cost and what is included, so there are no surprise extra costs further down the line. Fixed Price Packages are available for selected procedures at Weymouth Street Hospital.
8. Is the hospital or clinic up to scratch?
All cosmetic surgery clinics and hospitals have to be monitored and inspected by the CQC to ensure high standards.
9. Post-surgery care
Be sure to ask your cosmetic surgeon about the process that happens after your surgery. How long is your recovery likely to take? Do you need a follow up appointment?
