Arm Lift Surgery

Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that reshapes and contours your upper arms. At Phoenix Hospital Group, we offer tailored arm lift surgery to give you the look you desire in every aspect.

Our highly experienced and qualified surgeons take a patient-centred approach to arm lift surgery. That way, you can feel confident in both your decision and the overall look of your arms.

Is arm lift surgery right for me?

Arm lift surgery may be suitable if you:

» Have loose skin on your upper arms

» Don’t mind a potential horizontal scar on your arms (this should fade with time)

» Are likely to remain at a similar weight for the foreseeable future

» Don’t have medical conditions prohibiting you from surgery with a general anaesthetic

Our team will happily chat with you and answer any questions if you’re unsure whether arm lift surgery would suit you. We’ll also provide you with a comprehensive consultation beforehand, allowing you to be sure this is what you want and your surgeon to confirm whether your desired results are achievable.

Arm lift surgery: a treatment overview

Arm lift surgery can help to remove excess, sagging skin on your upper arms.

Our skin begins to lose elasticity as we age, and you may notice this more on your upper arms as a flap of loose skin.

Some other reasons you may develop loose upper arm skin include:

  • Losing a lot of weight, especially in a short period
  • Genetic factors
  • Lymphoedema (swelling of your lymphatic system)

Arm lift surgery can help restore a toned, defined look to your upper arms by:

  • Removing excess skin
  • Reducing fat
  • Tightening supportive surrounding tissues
  • Smoothing the remaining skin

What to expect during your arm lift surgery

Our friendly team will welcome and settle you in on the day of your arm lift surgery. Once you’re ready, we’ll administer the general anaesthetic, which will put you to sleep.

First, your surgeon will make an incision on the inside or back of your arm. Sometimes, we can perform invisible arm lift surgery, making incisions in your armpit crease to minimise visible scarring. We’ll discuss where your incisions will be during your consultation.

Next, the surgeon cuts excess skin away from your upper arm. Sometimes, they can perform liposuction simultaneously to remove additional fat. We may also use stitches to tighten the surrounding tissues.

Finally, we’ll stitch the area and apply a dressing to your wounds.

Recovering from arm lift surgery

After your arm lift surgery, we’ll take you to your private recovery room. You’ll need to wear a compression garment (a tight sleeve) on your arms to support healing and minimise swelling. You may also have small tubes under the skin in your arms to drain excess fluid.

You’ll notice a physical change in your arms’ appearance immediately after surgery. However, you will also have noticeable swelling and bruising, which will gradually fade.

It can take up to two weeks for your incisions to heal. You must minimise physical activity to avoid setting back your recovery. You may need to stop driving for three weeks as well.

Contact our team if you have questions about what to avoid during your recovery.

Arm lift surgery FAQs

Can exercising give me the same results as arm lift surgery?

Although exercise can help to improve muscle tone, it can’t change your skin’s elasticity. So, arm surgery is the only way to tighten loose skin on your upper arms. After your arm lift, regularly exercising (when recovered) can help you maintain the results for longer.

Will my arm lift surgery scars fade?

Your arm lift surgery scars will become less noticeable over time. However, the final appearance of your scars will depend on factors such as your overall health and how well your body heals.

Are there any risks of arm lift surgery?

All surgical procedures have potential risks. The possible risks of arm lift surgery include excessive scarring, nerve or blood vessel damage, infection, and numbness in the arm. However, our dedicated team does everything possible to minimise risks.

Is arm lift surgery painful?

You’ll be asleep during the surgery, so you won’t feel any pain. However, it’s usual to experience some discomfort during the healing process.

Is arm lift surgery a major surgery?

Experts consider arm lift surgery to be a major surgery. However, our team will do everything they can to support your wellbeing before, during and after your procedure, giving you confidence that you’re safe.

How long does it take to recover from arm lift surgery?

It takes around two weeks for you to recover. Your surgeon will confirm your recovery timeline based on your unique circumstances.

Where do you offer arm lift surgery?

We offer premium cosmetic and plastic surgery at Weymouth Street Hospital in London and Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford in Essex.
