Role: General Maintenance/Porter

Phoenix Hospital Group is a dynamic, fast growing independent hospital group currently operating hospitals London and Essex. It has ambitious plans to grow and is now keen to appoint an exceptional General maintenance/Porter to join our team at Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford.
The successful candidate will work with and under the direction of the Hospital Director to ensure our buildings and facilities are maintained to the highest reasonable standard, including refurbishment, renovations and office moves, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) of the building, ensuring that buildings meet health and safety standards and legal requirements. You will ensure our patients are at the right place at the right time, post & parcels are delivered, gas cylinders are checked and changed with an oversight over waste, linen, stores and equipment.
Key Duties include but are not limited to
- Undertake planned maintenance (PPMs) as required
- Undertake routine testing of essential systems – sprinklers, fire alarms, emergency lighting etc.
- Ensure all maintenance records are accurate and up to date
- Schedule preventative maintenance ensuring minimum disruption to services
- Attend to reactive and emergency requests received via Sentinel
- Prioritisation of workload to ensure that Sentinel requests are handled efficiently and professionally
- Be available for advice and assistance in emergency situations- leaks, power outage
- Able to carry out reactive repairs including electrical
- Ensure that all essential tools, stock and materials are available to undertake the role
- Supervision of appointed contractors as necessary
- Flexibility in attendance as the business dictates to ensure that essential works are completed
- Responding to the facilities email in a timely manner and responding
- Basic building maintenance i.e. painting, filling holes, plug changes, light bulbs, window cleaning, putting up frames & cupboards
- Checking the Gas cylinders and ordering Medical Gas & Liquid Nitrogen (training provided)
- Keeping all maintenance files up-to-date including contracts and expiry dates
- Participate in yearly training as required i.e. Fire, H&S, Manual Handling, Safeguarding
- Portering patients from ward to theatre
- Moving of equipment
- Distribution of post & parcels
- Overseeing the waste contract
- Keeping the gardens presentable
- Keeping hospital pathways clean and presentable
Qualifications/Experience
- Previous experience in the broad range of maintenance disciplines – general maintenance, small plumbing, HW systems, decorating, carpentry, etc.
- Experience of working with contractors
- Ideally qualified in one of the following disciplines: Building Services, plumbing (City & Guilds), or similar relevant discipline
- Ability to prioritise workload, to work under pressure with a high level of organisational proficiency and initiative
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow department procedures
- Strong command of written and spoken English
